Hyperloop: Navigation System for the Transport of the Future

Three Nolemmings colleagues, consisting of a high-tech student team, developed a superfast pod for the SpaceX Hyperloop Competition. What was their contribution? The smart software that safely navigates the vehicle.

The Challenge

Delft Hyperloop participated in the SpaceX Pod Competition in Los Angeles.

The goal: to design and build a Hyperloop pod that accelerates faster than any other, inside a one-mile vacuum tube. Within one year, a climate-neutral, scalable transport system had to be developed — a major technical and organizational challenge.

Our approach

Nolemmings’ AI specialists part of the Delft Hyperloop team at the time, did the following;.

  • developed the pod’s navigation and control system

  • applied AI and software for real-time control and error handling

  • collaborated closely with engineers from various disciplines

  • contributed to discussions on system scalability and sustainability

Their expertise helped create a system that was both robust and innovative — essential for a vehicle accelerating at hundreds of kilometers per hour.

The Result

  • The Delft Hyperloop pod reached speeds over 600 km/h

  • The design received international recognition for its technology and sustainability

  • The collaboration between students and AI engineers delivered valuable insights and concrete results

  • For Nolemmings, it was a valuable learning experience and a confirmation of what smart software can achieve in extreme conditions
